Refresh Your Skin After Sun Exposure

It’s almost peeling season! After that pool parties, beach outings, and adventure trips, you spent more time in the sun than you realize. “I am putting sunscreen on every day.” Say, you did that, but have you been religiously reapplying it every two hours? If not, then you may be heading into fall with some sun damage. Don’t worry, you have plenty of time to correct sun damage from Mr. Sun, before the holidays.

After summer, treating yourself to a chemical peel is one of the best ways to refresh your skin with minimal downtime. It will also depend on the kind of chemical peel you choose. There are different concerns you can address: dark spots, dull skin, freckles, fine lines, etc. The best way is to make sure you’re getting the right peel to improve your skin’s youthful appearance. If you want to discuss the options with me, then click here.

Do they work?
Here are some quick facts:

  • Chemical peels are used to remove damaged skin cells, revealing healthier skin underneath
  • There are different types of peels: light, medium, and deep. Though we, estheticians only offer superficial peels that don’t go deep on the skin layers

Tips:

  • A light chemical peel doesn’t require much downtime. It’s also called superficial peels which most estheticians offer.
  • Medium and Deep chemical peels can require two to three weeks of recovery time
  • Procedures can last from 30 minutes to 90 minutes

While the cost of the chemical peel depends on the type of peel you get, we can always tailor a facial that is within your budget but does not compromise the outcome. Of course, we still need to assess what you really need.

What is a chemical peel?
Maybe you heard this treatment over and over again. So, you may already know that these are cosmetic treatments that involve using acids to exfoliate the skin.

According to a study, the indications for a chemical peel should be tailored to each patient’s specific concerns and wishes as for the improvements of their skin. The downtime and tolerance are also taken into consideration. The acid used in chemical peels removes a uniform amount of damaged skin cells in the treatment area of the skin.

Chemical peels can penetrate two layers of the skin, the epidermis, and the dermis. The epidermis is the visible outer layer, and the dermis sits just beneath. If you’re thinking about deep peels, it will only remove a small part of the dermis. Chemical peels reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, or treat:

  • acne
  • enlarged pores
  • scarring
  • redness
  • rosacea
  • hyperpigmentation

What will you expect?
The process can cause swelling and peeling. According to a study, it may take 1-2 weeks to go away. Of course, it depends on the depth and intensity of the peel. Pro Tip: Keep your face dry and not shower or use face wash for the first 24 hours. Also, no use of makeup until the skin has healed. When your skin is peeling, please don’t peel off the dead skin!

Types of chemical peel
As indicated above, we have 3 different types of peels:

  1. superficial peels
  2. medium-depth peels
  3. deep peels

The right choice depends on your type and shade of skin and what issue you are hoping to address. I will personally assess the kind of skin and concern we are going to address and I will be the one to recommend the type of peel that is best for you.

Superficial peels
According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, Superficial Peels take 1–7 days to heal. It is important to wear sunscreen during this time.

Superficial peels are the gentlest type, hence, a person may need up to five sessions to see the results they want. You may be able to have superficial peels every 2–5 weeks. This peel doesn’t penetrate the skin’s deepest layers and carries a lower risk of side effects as skin recovers quickly. This is the type most estheticians offer.

Medium-depth peels

According to a study, medium-depth peels treat:

  • fine wrinkles
  • sun-damaged skin
  • minor hyperpigmentation
  • minor acne scars

According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association, medium-depth Peels take 7–14 days to heal. They cause swelling that worsens for 48 hours after the treatment and may cause blisters. Don’t worry, your skincare provider will give a solution that you should use to help your skin heal. It is also important to avoid sun exposure during recovery time. You can wear makeup after 5–7 days but must avoid total sun exposure until the skin heals fully.

Deep peels
Dermatologists recommend a deep peel if a person has:

  • moderate to severe sun damage
  • moderate to severe wrinkles
  • moderate to severe hyperpigmentation

Due to their strength, deep peels take 14–21 days to heal. A person needs to:

  • Recuperate at home.
  • Take an antiviral medication for 10–14 days.
  • Wash the skin with a special solution between four and six times a day.
  • Apply an ointment for 14 days, then use a thick moisturizer.
  • Avoid makeup for at least 14 days.
  • Avoid sun exposure for 3–6 months.

Marybella Beauty Skin Spa offers Advanced Therapeutic Treatments in St. Petersburg, Florida, and we have the SKIN RENEWAL PEEL for you! It’s a deep, reliable exfoliation of the skin with no destruction of the skin cells. It helps the rapid removal of several of the top dead cells layers and unlike many peeling treatments, does not remove even one layer of the epidermis, Only a part of the dead, horny surface skin cells are exfoliated in a thin crusty layer. Other treatments, may remove entire dead cell layers and go beyond into the living cell layers which can be affected and destroyed.

Each of our peeling treatments in fact restores the skin, stimulating regrowth and the basal cells. Many skin layers are rejuvenated and thickened by the reaction triggered off by the deep peeling.

The process is recommended as a treatment for aging skin, especially the deep wrinkles of the upper lip. Our peeling works wonders for acne, pigmentation problems, blemishes, freckles, and aging skin. The effects of the process continue for up to a year after.

Another favorite peel treatment in the clinic is what we call Advanced Omega Hydro Peel. It uses Vortex Technology, which allows deep tissue hydration in the bottom layers of the skin! Note this: treatment has no downtime and results are immediate! It reduces hyperpigmentation, clogged pores follicles, blackheads, etc.

NOW IS THE BEST TIME TO GET A CHEMICAL PEEL. LET US HELP YOU CHOOSE THE RIGHT ONE.
