Should I be changing my skincare routine from summer to fall?

Ever wondered why you need to change your skincare routine for the new season?

Definitely, yes. Fall is the best season to repair summer damage and prepare your skin for the holidays! The cooler weather can cause our skin barrier to become dull, dry and prone to breakouts. According to Lucy Foster, we need to get up to date with everything especially modifying our skincare routine.

Types of skincare products should we be using in autumn/winter

1. Moisturizers

Fall brings a cooler climate and drier air, you should seasonally change up heavier moisturizers, add in antioxidants such as vitamin C and introduce eye creams to help with puffiness and dryness. If you’re noticing a lot of dryness, you can add a slightly thicker or creamier moisturiser to give your skin an extra boost.

According to a study, dry skin disorders are induced by complex interactions between environmental and individual factors. These factors are low environmental temperature, low humidity, exposure to chemicals, and others.

Hyaluronic acid, a natural component of skin, is capable of drawing in and holding moisture, which is why it’s used as a topical skin hydrator, according to Cosmetics Info.

Product Suggestion:

You should try NeoGenesis’ Intensive Moisturizer. It is deeply hydrating proper for barrier function and support. It’s extra-rich formula gives extra moisture to the skin.

Skin lacking moisture may also appear older and duller, as dry skin doesn’t reflect light and instead the shadow effect can make fine lines and wrinkles more noticeable.

2. Exfoliation

Exfoliate only if you need it. Over-exfoliation creates tiny cracks to your skin barrier which means lesser hydration and inflammation. Exfoliation is better done with an expert —  bear in mind that we don’t want to strip the skin of moisture, which is why it’s always important to get in touch with a skincare specialist who can guide you in the right direction when it comes to safe and gentle exfoliation.

3. SPF

Every skin type would be smart to slather on sunscreen year-round. There are no exceptions. You  might view fall as a time where you can finally break free of sunscreen, but you have to stay vigilant. According to the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), UV exposure can sneak up on you during the fall. Plus, don’t forget that UVA rays penetrate window glass in cars and offices.

Which in-clinic treatments are perfect for this time of year?

If you’re really looking for a new start for the holiday glow, consider trying treatments like chemical peels, or microneedling.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels exfoliate the skin and stimulate new cell growth, helping to rebuild collagen. After you undergo a chemical peel, the skin will be temporarily more sensitive to sunlight. For the best recovery, it is strongly adviced to stay out of the sun — that’s why fall and winter months are the best times to book for this treatment. Although the safest time of year to undergo chemical peels, it is still imperative to apply SPF daily.

Microneedling

Another treatment that is clinically proven to help stimulate collagen production, is microneedling. It’s a non-invasive skin treatment that creates micro-injuries to the very first layer of your skin. This stimulates the body to boost the regenerative processes that naturally takes place in the skin every day. During this regeneration, collagen and elastin production are increased. Still a treatment that needs SPF, okay?
