If you came across this blog just to know if Microneedling does help with acne scars. Well, the answer is yes. To give you an overview, microneedling promotes the growth of new collagen in your skin. How? read on.

What is Microneedling?

What is Microneedling?

Let’s get nerdy. Shall we? According to a study, Microneedling is a relatively simple procedure that is cost-effective, well-tolerated, and offers both cosmetic and therapeutic benefits. The ability to treat localized areas of disease has led to numerous studies gauging its potential in focal diseases of inflammation, dyschromia, and photodamage.

To let you understand more, it is a cosmetic procedure that addresses a lot of skin issues. You may have heard it as Microneedling CIT. CIT means Collagen Induction Therapy. We are offering Microneedling FCIT in the spa. Fractional Collagen Induction Therapy is an advanced modality. Know more here.

Microneedling is a minimally invasive treatment that can be used all over your body. Yes, and we’re also talking about head to toe, scalp to ankles. It is widely used in the face to improve the appearance of scars, boost collagen, or encourage hair growth.

Microneedling is also one of the recommended treatments for fine lines and wrinkles, sun damage, stretch marks, and lots. Here’s a list for you:

  • Acne scars
  • Fine lines
  • Wrinkles
  • Enlarged pores
  • Hyperpigmentation and sunspots
  • Lost elasticity
  • Uneven skin textures
  • Stretch marks
  • Uneven skin tones

What are the benefits of Microneedling?

What are the benefits of Microneedling?

A systematic review in 2018 discovered that Microneedling is an effective and safe way to treat scars, wrinkles, and rejuvenate the skin. The main benefit is increasing your collagen production.

Collagen fights wrinkles and will naturally decrease production with age. There’s a study that made participants undergo four (4) microneedling sessions, a month apart. After having the final treatment, the participants and the researchers showed significant improvement to fine lines, wrinkles, skin texture, and laxity.

Of course, Microneedling help treats acne scars. The needles used in the device break down the hardened scar tissue and encourage your skin to rebuild it. A study showed improvements from people with acne scarring after two (2) months, no matter how severe their cases may be.

Microneedling Risks You Should Know

Microneedling Risks You Should Know

As much as we estheticians recommend you to book a Microneedling treatment when your concerns are mentioned above, we always want to let you know the risks before you decide to book this treatment.

  • There’s no instant fix for Microneedling. We all know that consistency is key and it takes time to notice the improvement and difference in your skin. Why? your body reacts by healing. A lot of people need multiple session treatments to achieve what they want to achieve.
  • Healing time. It takes time to heal. It may take days or weeks and it depends on how deep the needles pierced your skin.
  • Pain and redness. You may experience minor pain after the treatment, and your skin will be red for just a few days. Your skin may also feel tight and flake a bit, but it will heal.
  • Scarring. It is possible for people with keloids and scars that look like bubbles on the skin. Avoid it as it could make the condition worse.

What are the side effects of Microneedling?

Well, Microneedling is not for all people. Some redness or mild irritation can occur after treatment, but take note that it’s just the way for your skin to recover. In just a span of 3 days, maybe more, it depends, the redness should go away. You might also feel your skin tightening, dry, or sensitive when touched after. Just be patient.

Microneedling as said, is safe and effective. However, it is not for all. When you have taken radiation in the past year, are pregnant, have a skin disease, or maybe have a history of poor wound healing better ask me what would be the best treatment to achieve what you want, but not Microneedling.

Generally, Microneedling punctures the skin with small needles. The skin will be numbed before the treatment so you will feel less pain and avoid discomfort. Microneedling uses a pen-like tool: dermaroller. It has tiny stainless steel needles that cause micro-injuries to the skin.

According to a study, these micro-injuries boost collagen production for your skin to heal. The treatment’s goal is to send elastin and collagen, which is, by the way, the healing agents of our skin, to the areas that need repair.
